Growing up in Romania, Gavriel lived the typical life of a gypsy until he was taken in by the Ravnos clan, narrowly avoiding death during the Week of Nightmares due to the assistance of a family member from his mortal days. 

He turned a skill with sleight of hand and gambling into a booming business, moving from back room games to running his own circle and eventually travelling to the United States and starting a casino of his own.
